Celebrate Mothers Day with us as we delve into all things motherhood!

Published by Paigan Bartholomaeus on 10th May 2020

Happy Mothers Day night to all the beautiful mummas out there! The ones who keep the world turning, even in the midst of a pandemic! These past few weeks have really emphasised the fact that mums are never off duty. Days off no longer exist. Sleep ins are a distant memory. We are now human glue that keeps the house and those within it together. Every now and then, as we crawl into bed with our eyes hanging out of our head, put on our 78th load of washing for the day, pick up the same toy 14 times within an hour or hit with the old 'I don’t like toast after asking for toast' scenario, we may have moments of wondering why we do it. At the end of the day, I still think I can say with confidence, that not one of us would have it any other way. Being needed is one of the best things to be and as a mum, that’s a badge we wear with pride.

To celebrate Mothers Day, we went diving into the archives to rummage up some pictures of our mums and as with all photo album expeditions, took a little walk down memory lane in the process. For those of us who are mums ourselves, it not surprisingly stirred up ALL the feels of what it’s like to be a mumma. As of this year, four out of five of the Incy fam now hold that title (and yes, fur babies ARE included) so we felt this was the perfect opportunity to sit back and celebrate it all. Take a peek at some old pics, new pics and the answers to the hard-hitting questions of motherhood!

First cab off the rank is our #1 Incy mumma. The brains behind the operation, the one and only, Kristy! Daughter of Chez and mum to Oscar and Polly.

1. What’s the best thing about your mum? She isn’t a normal mum she is a cool mum

2. Something unique about your mum: My mum is completely unique, not too many mums would come to watch you play netball in a purple leather skirt and a sequin jacket!

3. What traits from your mum did you inherit? Physically I don’t think I really inherited much from mum other than my bright blue eyes but personality wise I definitely got her OCD, cleanliness and independence.

4. Your mums favourite saying/catch phrase? Fly safe my baby xx No matter where I am in the world (and what time it is in Australia) my mum will send me a text message just before I fly out to tell me to fly safely.

5. What makes your mum happiest? Nutella and Moscato! She also absolutely LOVES her children and grandchildren.

6. Best piece of advice your mum’s ever given you? Our mum is an original feminist, she was there burning her bra with her afro and pipe. Mum is fiercely strong and independent and has always raised us to be the same.

7. If you had to pick an actor to play your mum in a film who would you give the role to and why? She isn’t necessarily an actor although she has her own TV show but we often refer to our family as the Kardashians and mum is of course Kris Jenner.

8. If you had to sum your mum up in one word what would it be? Stylish

9. Your favourite mumory (mum memory): So many, how do you pick just one? One that stands out is mum coming and staying with me for a week after the birth of both of my children and that was such a special time.

Now a few questions AS a mumma:

1. Kids names/ages: Oscar 12 & Polly 8

3. Ideal Mothers Day gift this year? The thing I need most right now is some will power and motivation. Isolation has turned me into a slob so anything that might inspire me would be amazing!

4. What parts of yourself can you see in your kids? Do you remember when you would put a chip packet in the oven and it would shrink? Basically Oscar is a shrunken version of my husband and Polly is a shrunken version of myself.

5. If you had to sum up your kids in one word, what would it be? Oscar – smart, Polly - bubbly

Now if the next set of answers you read sound a little familiar, it'll likely be due to the fact that Tom and Kristy both share the privilege of having Chez as their mumma!

Last but not least, Paigan! Paigan is the Social Media Manager for Incy and manages all this from abroad after flying the coop for London last year.

1. What’s the best thing about your mum? She is as thoughtful and as caring as they come - always making an effort to check in and see how I am, especially now that I am living across the other side of the world. I feel pretty blessed to now know the true meaning of the saying ‘distance doesn’t mean a thing when someone means so much’ and it's all thanks to her.

2. Something unique about your mum: She is a qualified chef and can make a choccy mud like nobody’s business.

3. What traits from your mum did you inherit? Everyone says I look like my mum with our dark eyes and dark hair. I like to think I also inherited her attention to detail and her caring nature.

4. Your mums favourite saying/catch phrase? "Love you to the moon and back" – her nightly sign off. Or every time I upload a picture on Insta she will almost certainly comment on it saying ‘beautiful, but I might be biased’ – bless her tech savvy soul.

5. What makes your mum happiest? Having her girls together at home, not doing a thing, just being together.

6. Best piece of advice your mum’s ever given you? No matter where you are it's exactly where you are meant to be no matter how things may appear.

7. If you had to pick an actor to play your mum in a film who would you give the role to and why? Queen K will have a lot on her plate if these films ever come to fruition! I’m Jumping on the bandwagon here with Kristy and Tom and saying Kris Jenner because I think my mum is a spitting image of her. Also she can be sassy as hell which I LOVE!

8. If you had to sum your mum up in one word what would it be? Dependable

9. Your favourite mumory (mum memory): There’s far too many but the most recent memory that makes me emosh (in a good way) was seeing her after 6 long months apart. With some help from the best boss in the world, they coerced a surprise visit earlier than I had anticipated after flying in from London… goose bumps just thinking about it.

10. And finally, what did you get your mum for mothers day? Mum owns a boutique store in my hometown with some amazing brands so buying for her can be super hard! My sister and I did manage to coordinate this from opposite sides of the world though.
